Attendance

Good attendance (95% or better) is expected.

If your child is unable to attend due to illness, please notify the school office on 01536 710349 as soon as possible.

The school does not authorise term time holidays.  From 1st September 2013, a new law gives no entitlement to parents to take their child on holiday during term time. Any application for leave must only be in exceptional circumstances and Headteachers would not be expected to class any term time holiday as exceptional. Parents can be fined by the Local Authority and the initial Fixed Penalty Notice of £60.00 will be issued to each parent for each child (i.e. two parent family, two children = £240.00).

What if my child's late for school?

Good timekeeping is not just good manners, it is also essential in the world of work.  If a child arrives late, they will need to enter through the office and be signed in the arrivals/departures book, and a late mark will be recorded.  You must accompany your child to the school office to give a reason for being late.

What if I want to take my child out of school for a holiday?

Requests for absence should be submitted as soon as you are aware of the need for leave &, where possible, not less than two weeks prior to the start of the absence. Forms not received within this timescale may not be considered. Proof (doctor’s note, prescription etc) will be required for children who are absent from school with sickness the day before or the day after an unauthorised period of 4 days absence. If this is not provided the sickness will be unauthorised.

The school policy is not to authorise holidays during term time.

When requesting an absence during term time parents/carers are requested to consider the following:

  • By missing lessons will my child fall behind or fail to make progress?
  • Will missing lessons interfere with preparation for national tests in Yr2 & 6?
  • Has my child missed lessons during the school term due to ill health or other absences?

What if my child is absent - illness/medical reason?

Should your child be absent for any reason, please let us know by using the Studybugs App before 8.30am on the first day of illness and each subsequent day.  We are required to record any absences not notified to us as ‘unauthorised’ and to report on these regularly.

What if I need to have a medical/dental appointment during the school day?

If your child needs to leave school during lesson time to visit the doctor, dentist or optician, we will require some formal confirmation of the appointment. This can be either by a letter with the appointment details or text/email confirmation clearly showing the date and time of the appointment. Children will not be allowed out of school on their own.  We advise that, if possible, appointments are made after school or in holiday times.  All children must be signed in and out of school in the arrivals/departures book.
