What is the PE and Sport Premium?
The PE and Sport Premium is additional funding provided by the Government to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sporting opportunities they offer to pupils.
The funding is designed to support schools in developing high-quality physical education, increasing participation in sport and physical activity, and encouraging children to lead healthy, active lifestyles.
The funding can only be spent on improving PE and sport provision within schools.
Purpose of the Funding
Schools have the flexibility to decide how best to use their PE and Sport Premium funding to improve the quality and impact of their PE and sport provision.
The funding may be used to:
- Employ specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside teaching staff
- Introduce new or additional sports clubs and physical activity opportunities
- Provide professional development and training for staff
- Release teachers to attend PE and sport training
- Increase participation in sporting competitions and School Games events
- Purchase quality-assured PE resources and training materials
- Provide places for pupils at after-school sports clubs and holiday activities
