About our Nursery

Welcome!

At Rothwell Nursery School we provide a calm, stimulating and challenging environment both indoors and outdoors where children can learn and explore. The nursery is teacher led and follows the school’s ethos to ensure a smooth transition into school. Our aim is to develop happy, confident and independent learners that are curious about the world around them and enjoy coming to Nursery.  We ensure our children have fun alongside their friends and that every child is supported by our caring and experienced staff.  Children will take part in short adult led group times such as phonics, rhyme time, maths and T4W as well as a lot of time for learning through play in the continuous provision.

The outdoor space is available in all weathers and has been set up to promote curiosity, risk taking and independence. Once a week we have a session in the forest school site in the main school to enrich the children’s outdoor learning.

We currently provide places for up to 39 children and are committed to giving every child the best possible start to their learning journey. Our experienced team works closely with families to help children feel happy, safe and confident as they develop new skills and friendships.

Our Ethos

We firmly believe that children learn best through play.  We hope to produce happy, confident, resilient, inquisitive and independent learners.  We aim to provide a challenging, exciting, inviting learning environment where children feel safe and secure, and are willing to participate in the activities provided and to seek out learning opportunities independently.

Our Aims

We aim to ensure that our children are happy, safe, confident and independent.

We aim to challenge our children through well planned activities and environments, encouraging them to explore, investigate, talk about their ideas and work collaboratively with others, both adults and children.

We aim to provide activities and learning opportunities which will stimulate and interest children.  Our planning starts with the children, with their needs and their interests.  We plan as a team, considering the next steps for our children, and discuss which activities will best fit their next steps.

Other Information

Here's a much shorter version that keeps all the key information and facts while making it more website-friendly.

Evidence Me

We use Evidence Me to capture and share your child's learning and achievements in Nursery. Observations are based on special "wow" moments and other independent or enjoyable activities, so there is no set number sent home.

Parents can also share photos and comments about learning at home by replying to Evidence Me emails. Occasionally, group photographs may be shared. If you do not wish your child to appear in group photos, please let the school office know.

Collection and Contact Information

Please collect your child promptly at the end of their session. Children can only be collected by an adult aged 18 or over.

It is important that the school office has up-to-date contact details, including an emergency contact who can be reached if you are unavailable.

Nursery Parent Chats

Parents and carers are invited to attend a Parent Chat session with their child. This includes time for your child to play in the Nursery environment, followed by an opportunity to meet with your child's key person and other Nursery staff. These sessions usually take place on the same day as the INMAT Trust transition day.

Uniform and Clothing

School uniform is optional but many children choose to wear:

  • Navy sweatshirt or cardigan
  • White polo shirt
  • Grey skirt, trousers or shorts
  • Navy summer dress (summer months)

Otherwise, children should wear comfortable clothing that allows them to use the toilet independently. Trainers are suitable; however, Crocs, sandals and open-toed footwear should not be worn.

Every child should bring a named drawstring bag containing a full change of clothes. Please ensure all belongings are clearly named. Due to limited space, we ask that children do not bring rucksacks.

Branded uniform items can be purchased from Karl Sports: karlsports.co.uk

Health and Medication

Please check your child's hair regularly for head lice and treat them before returning to Nursery if required.

If your child has any health or developmental needs, please speak to a member of the Nursery team.

Prescribed medication, including inhalers, can only be administered when a parental consent form has been completed. Forms are available from the school office.

Accidents and Injuries

If your child is hurt during a session, you will either receive a text message or be informed by a member of staff at collection time.

Please let us know if your child has any allergies to sticking plasters or medication.

Sun Safety

During warm weather, please ensure your child arrives wearing high-factor sunscreen and brings a named sun hat, in line with our Sun Safety Policy.

Toileting

We are happy to support children with toilet training and work closely with families to encourage independence.

If your child is still wearing nappies, please provide nappies, wipes and nappy sacks in a named bag and replenish supplies when needed. We encourage children to practise using the toilet and washing their hands independently at home, and we will always support them should accidents occur.
